The Mississippi Center for Advanced Medicine is seeking to hire a pharmacy technician/pharmacy care coordinator.

Coordinated Care Model: The Mississippi Center for Advanced Medicine offers a patient and family centered care team that includes sub-specialty physicians, clinical pharmacists, specialty nursing, social work/care coordination services, patient service representatives, support staff and financial services to ensure the patient and family have all the resources necessary to navigate complex medical processes and to deliver the best possible outcomes.


Job Duties

As a pharmacy care coordinator and technician, you would be part of a multi-disciplinary team, working under the direct supervision and mentorship of a pharmacist. Responsibilities for this position would include the following:

  • Utilize excellent customer service skills while working with patients, in-person and via telephone, to compassionately and efficiently coordinate medication orders
  • Effectively communicates with patients, answering questions and requests, and referring inquiries to the pharmacist as appropriate.
  • Identify and contact patients for timely refills arranging delivery or pickup
  • Documents clear, concise and complete notes in appropriate systems in a timely manner
  • Accurately enter prescription information, fill prescriptions, and prepare for pickup or delivery
  • Tracks and confirms delivery of outgoing shipments
  • Obtain and verify patient insurance information, resolve insurance issues, assist with prior authorization and appeals, etc
  • Analyzes pharmacy billing system to ensure that charges and reimbursements appear accurate.
  • Enroll patients with patient assistance programs as appropriate
  • Perform cash register transactions
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed medications and supplies, verifying receipt, and removing outdated drugs
  • Assist with 340B program maintenance and auditing
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement
  • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information.
  • Help maintain a clean working environment by completing daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Must pass background check and drug screen prior to start date
  • Pharmacy technician license (must be applied for and obtained prior to start date)
  • Must be willing to work towards certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Preferred experience with PioneerRx pharmacy software and EPIC electronic health record system.
  • All MCAM employees are required to get an annual flu vaccine.      
  • All MCAM employees are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 prior to beginning employment according to CDC guidelines.
  • Follows ChildKind best practices regarding pain assessment, prevention, management, and documentation. Works to minimize procedure related discomfort (e.g. needle sticks).
