The Pediatric Obesity Medicine and Nutrition Program at MCAM provides a team approach consisting of a board certified pediatrician who is also board certified in obesity medicine and a pediatric dietitian. Our focus is to improve a child’s health and well-being by looking at the many potential facets of pediatric weight gain including medical disorders, nutritional consumption, psychological contributors, physical activity and social support. We utilize a family centered approach to help create a healthy environment that allows for successful achievement of a healthy lifestyle.

Our services include:

  • Weight gain support for children 18 years of age and younger who have:
    • Concerns for excessive weight gain
    • Overweight or body mass index (BMI) between the 85th and 94th percentile for age
    • Obesity or BMI greater than or equal to the 95th percentile for age
    • Obesity/overweight related co-morbidities
  • Evaluation for potential causes of obesity or excessive weight gain
  • Dietitian services
  • Evaluation/Treatment for the following obesity related co-morbidities:
    • Prediabetes
    • Hypertension
    • Fatty Liver
    • Hyperlipidemia
  • Weight loss medication
  • Addressing factors related to weight gain:
    • Eating behaviors
    • Emotional health
    • Portion sizes
    • Inactivity
    • Sleep
    • Food choices/availability
